3 Years of Blogging

Hello everyone! Today marks the anniversary of my very first blog post. In the three years that I’ve been blogging, so much has changed not only in my life but also on my blog.

blogiversary

When I started blogging, I didn’t really know what I wanted to write about. With more practice and more posts, I’ve been able to find out what I like and develop my blog to how it is now. To those who have recently started their own blogs, keep it up! It might take a while for you to get it to where you like but it will be worth it. Also, don’t be afraid to take breaks. Sometimes taking a step back can give you a better picture.

I’m super excited to start this 4th year of blogging! I hope you’ll follow me along!

Dear Sis

Dear Sis,

Oh how much you mean to me! You’re the best middle-younger sister I have. :) I love your hair and your love for all things beauty. I love how you are organized and motivated. I love you for being you.

Life has thrown some curveballs at us hasn’t it? But you’ve been so strong! I admire you for that. My wish for you is that you’ll continue to look to Him for hope, encouragement, truth, and strength. Don’t let people discourage you.

“Every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things but vise versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.” ~The Doctor   As you begin your freshmen (fresh meat) year, remember that quote. Don’t let heartaches, bad grades or failures ruin your dreams for I believe you will be able to accomplish anything. Highschool is stressful. It’s scary and busy and includes a whole lot of expectations. Keep your head up and know that I will always be here for you. Always.

So when you’re rich and famous, living in your big house with tons of closets holding your clothes and shoes, remember me. Remember us all. And if you think I’m writing about you in my future novels, I probably am. :)

I love you sis! *big hug*

Happy Birthday!

Love your big sis,
Abi

Dear Sis

Dear Sis,

And so it ends; your birthday week. 13 years old and finally a teenager! You have many adventures ahead of you, so many things to look forward to. But with those adventures, come trials and things will get hard. Just keep being your happy self and I think you’ll be fine. :)

One of the things that I’ve always loved about you is that you’re motivated and persistent. You aim high and dream big dreams and that’s amazing! Never lose that. I fully believe that you will be able to accomplish anything you set your mind to. And while I still struggle getting out of bed every morning, you are ready to jump up and get things done. I think we all need a little more of that haha. :)

But I think the thing that I love most about you is that you still love your family. I know that even when I’m off to college, I can count on you to call and visit and be the one to randomly show up to my class just to run up behind me and scare me. I don’t know what life will bring us in the future, but I know that God has a plan for you. An amazing, wonderful, incredible plan.

So here’s to my pink-loving, chocolate-eating, bubbly littlest sister.
Happy Birthday!

Love,
Abi

Glow in the Dark Party (Attempt #1)

birthday

Hey, everyone! So I finally got around to writing this. For my sister’s birthday, she requested a glow-in-the-dark party. Well, the reason why “Attempt #1” is in the title is because I kind of failed. But I learned what not to do next time so, it’s getting there.

The Cake

My family (with exception to one) has all fallen in love with coconut cake. But my sis couldn’t decide between the coconut or red velvet cupcakes so we bought the coconut cake (from Harris Teeter of course) and I planned to bake yellow (not red) velvet and then use tonic water and jello to make them glow in the dark under a black light. Well, we ran out of yellow food coloring so I added blue. As you might have guessed, it turned green. But not the pretty Easter green, no, it turned trash-can green. I must have used the wrong frosting recipe because it didn’t taste quite right. After the cupcakes cooled, I mixed the tonic water and jello together and dipped the cupcakes into the tonic water. After a couple of layers, I let the cupcakes cool and then tasted one. I’m sure my sister was being nice when she said that she liked them because they were not good. It was like red velvet with cream cheese and fruit frosting. I don’t know it was just bad. Using a black light, I tried to see if they glowed and they didn’t. At least we had the coconut cake!

The Decorations

Since the party was glow-in-the-dark themed, my mom and I went out and bought glow in the dark paint at Target. At home, I painted some signs and before hanging them up, I took them into a dark closet and checked to make sure it worked. It did at first but I guess it wore off by the time it got dark because it didn’t glow after that.

Everything Else

The rest of the party went well. We played a scavenger hunt with a couple gifts hidden around with the cards. We did find these really cool gum balls at Target. They were a beautiful color and the birthday girl loved them.

We all had a wonderful time even though most of it didn’t work out. But I learned what not to do next time and that is a good thing. ;)

Cakes, Scavenger Hunts and Birthdays!

cbirthday15.PNG

Hey, everyone! I just had the most amazing day. Today was my sister’s birthday and I was on cake baking duty along with my other sister, E. After 5 long hours, lots of frosting making and fondant rolling, we finally finished.

castlecake

And of course, it had to be pink because it’s her favorite color. C invited her two friends over for a sleepover. After a quick tour around the house, they sat at the table (covered with a pink table cover) and decorated pillow cases as well as flip flops with rhinestones.

While I finished up my homework, the guests watch a movie. When it was over,  E and I ran around the house setting up the scavenger hunt. Each card had a clue leading to the next card. Every few cards, we were redirected to the kitchen to compete in one of the six challenges.

These were the challenges.

  1. Create a rainbow loom bracelet with 13 bands using only your fingers. Whoever finishes first, wins.
  2. Tissue box challenge: each person receives a full tissue box. With one hand behind their back, they must try to empty all of the tissues from the box first. This was really fun but also made quite a pile to clean up.
  3. Cotton Ball Challenge: There is one bowl filled with cotton balls and one empty bowl. The player is blindfolded and must use a spoon to spoon the cotton balls into the empty bowl which is on the player’s head.
  4. Oreo Taste Guess: The players are all blindfolded and given different flavors of Oreos (or any other cookie). They must try to guess the flavor of the Oreo.
  5. Tissue Box Shake: Take an empty tissue box and put a couple balls in it. Tie the box around yourself with the box on your back. On go, shake until all of the balls are out of the box.
  6. Place an Oreo on your forehead. On go, use only your face muscles to move the Oreo down to your mouth. If you drop it, you must start over.

When the scavenger hunt was over, C opened her presents and we had cake. We also enjoyed our goody bags which included lotion, a hand mirror, and a small notepad or chalkboard.

About that this time, my parents headed to bed and I turned in my homework while everyone else painted their nails. And then came the late night movie and snack fest. The girls were snuggled on the couch and E was in the corner and I sat on the chair trying so hard not to fall asleep. Around 1:00 am we headed upstairs. I was knocked out but from what I heard, C and her friends didn’t fall asleep until 4:00 am. When I woke up, C’s friends had already left and I heard some amazing words. “This was the best birthday ever.”

I had so much fun today! Special thanks to my uncle for buying me the cake set and to my sister for helping me plan and create this birthday party. Also to the birthday girl herself, because without her, I wouldn’t have had so much fun today. Here are some of the riddles. If you know the answer, comment in the box down below.

Riddles:

1) I get bigger when I eat, but die when I drink. What am I?

2) This machine spins food and drinks around. When it’s on, it makes a loud sound. What is it?

3) Your next clue isn’t hard, no biggie. Find it where there are clothes for your piggies.

4) Most keys open door but mine only make a sound. What am I?

5) Some take me in the morning, others take me in the evening. But one thing you should know when I’m ‘taken’ I don’t really go anywhere. What am I?
