2 Years and 200 Followers

Two years ago a girl decided it was finally time for her to published her very first blog post. Two years later, she is still blogging and loves it to pieces. That girl is me.

years-of-blogging

Hey, everyone! Today is October 25th which means it’s my 2 year blogiversary! Yay! This blog has grown so much over the last two years and I can’t believe that I’ve made it this far.

First Steps

I started blogging because I loved writing and I wanted to try something new. When my friends started their blogs in the fall of 2014, I decided it was time to make my contribution to the WordPress feed. That’s when I started my blog, Life As A Homeschooled Teen. I posted my first blog post titled, “Welcome One, Welcome All“. The posts following that one were sporadic and I wasn’t getting very many views but I pressed on hoping that someday, I would reach 100 followers.

In 2015, I struggled with coming up with posts that I felt were “worthy” to post. While trying to figure something out, I came up with the “To-Bake List” which is getting more and more popular. I also started my “Monthly Favorites” posts which I love posting because they help me to take a minute to remember what I did instead of flying through life with no end point. If that makes any sense.

Then I Decided I Wanted A Change

I was tired of being stuck with writer’s block and wanted to change. The 2016 New Year was a perfect place to start. I started a notebook with hundreds of blog post ideas and made calendars to keep me on track. My goal was to post 2-3 every week which I’ve pretty much kept up since then.

I posted about school, hosted a Q&A, talked about my Spring Break, and wrote letters to my sisters. Basically, I started posting things I was passionate about and loved to talk about. Eventually, my views shot up and I reached 100 followers in May. I celebrated with a giveaway (which I will hold again once I reach 250 followers).

In August, I decided to go back to school and Life As A Homeschooled Teen turned into Happily Abi. I redesigned my blog and also started up a Google+ page. Then I wrote a mini-series on my homeschooling experience. Just 5 short months after I reached 100 followers, I reached 200!

Two Years Strong

I am so excited about everything that has happened on my blog. It’s been a long journey but it was worth every minute. I wanted to thank you all for all of your support and encouragement. I couldn’t have gotten here without you! And of course, I must thank my Lord and Savior for giving me this gift in the first place. Many, many thanks! :)

I also need to thank my mother who is AMAZING and cleared out her whole day just to make me a tart and decorate the kitchen to celebrate these two years. Gah, she’s the best! :D

Again, thanks to all of you for everything! I hope that you’ll continue this journey with me. Love to all!

Why I Switched From Homeschooling To Private Schooling

Hey, everyone! So ever since I posted this big news post, I’ve gotten questions pertaining to homeschooling and my big switch. So I decided to create a mini-series and answer all your questions. This is part 3 – Why I Switched From Homeschooling To Private Schooling.

privateschool

One question that I get asked a lot is, “Why did you decide to go back to school?” That’s a pretty fair question. So here’s the short answer: I missed being in a social setting.

Here’s the long answer: I believe that there is a time for everything. I loved being homeschooled and being at home with my family. There wasn’t anything about it that I didn’t enjoy, but as high school graduation drew closer to an end, I felt that I needed to go back to being in an actual brick building school.

“Why didn’t you just go to a public school?”, you may ask. I wanted to go to a school where I could share my faith openly, somewhere I could feel comfortable in, somewhere I could have a Christian education. For me, that meant going to a Christian school. I also wanted a place for me to make great friends. As a homeschooler, I didn’t have much social time so it was really important for me to be able to have that. So, I chose a Christian school where my friend goes to.

Hopefully, this post helped you all understand my decision. If you still have any questions, comment or email me at happilyabi@gmail.com

25 Things I Loved About Being Homeschooled

Hey, everyone! So ever since I posted this big news post, I’ve gotten questions pertaining to homeschooling and my big switch. So I decided to create a mini-series and answer all your questions. This is part 2- 25 Things I loved about being homeschooled.

I absolutely loved being homeschooled and everything that came with it.

  1. You don’t have to wake up early every morning.
  2. But you have the option of waking up early to get everything done before 11:00 so you can have a free day.
  3. No school lunches – Homemade meals are the best!
  4. You can learn what you are actually interested in.
  5. Field trips to the coffee shop! Any time of the day.
  6. No dress code! (Although I could only wear my pjs on Fridays).
  7. Birthdays are holidays.
  8. Hot chocolate and homework in front of the fireplace? Yes, please!
  9. You can spend more time with family.
  10. There is no busy work.
  11. You can take naps when you really need it.
  12. You don’t have to rush in the mornings!
  13. PE = doing pilates in the comfort of your home WITHOUT the uniforms.
  14. Did I mention that I didn’t have school on Fridays?
  15. You’re not confined to a classroom.
  16. There’s freedom to go on fun trips in the middle of the school week.
  17. There’s more time to do the things you love to do.
  18. Homeschooling in high school gives you opportunities for great scholarships for college.
  19. Never getting stuck in traffic.
  20. Three, four, or even five-day weekends. Yes, it’s possible!
  21. Graduating early is totally an option.
  22. You can learn the way you understand.
  23. There are lots of opportunities to travel.
  24. It’s the best way to learn how to be self-motivated.
  25. You can do fun things like starting a blog!

Take a Look – In My Sketchbook

Art has always been a huge part of my life. When I was younger, playing outside wasn’t an option so instead, I looked to paper and pens for fun.

IMG_2560

My sketchbook is just a black spiral sketchbook. It is 7in by 10in with 80 thick sheets of acid-free paper.

IMG_2556

This is one of my favorite drawings. I drew it for my French teacher and then made another copy for myself.

IMG_2568

This drawing was inspired by a pin. I did not come up with the idea – I just thought it was cute and that I’d give it a try.

IMG_2565

My wonderful sister helped me with the details on this one. This was one of my first attempts at drawing hair. :) This also came from a pin.

This is another one of my favorites. It was inspired by another picture. (I’m sorry I can’t link back to the originals.) I just changed the words on the dress/top. My sister helped me with this one as well.

And that’s it! Which drawing was your favorite? Let me know in the comments below! I’d love to hear from you! :) Also, if you have any suggestions of what I should draw, let me know!

What I’ve Been Up To

Hey everyone! How are you all? I’m doing fantastic! Summer has officially started for my family and it’s been great so far.

img_1709

My best friend invited me to go with her to her lake dock. We spent the day swimming and having a great time! The water was perfect and the day was beautiful!

Paisleys are so pretty! They are my favorite design and are so easy to do. I was also able to finish this drawing on my days off from school. It was inspired by this pin. I love this doodle/drawing because of the use of Sharpie. I felt that it helped to make the paisleys bolder. :)

img_1736

Aren’t these flowers pretty?  My sister picked them for me and my family. :)

I bought this gem at a little town I visited with my mom and sisters. There was a book sale at the library and I found this old Grammar for English Language book that was published in 1852! Guess how much it was. 3 bucks!! Can you believe it? This is definitely a treasure.

Anyway, that is a glimpse into my past week. How was your week? Let me know! I’d love to hear from you. :)

50 Things That Make Me Happy

My favorite song • The wind on a warm day • Hot tea • Family around the table • A good book • Silver lining on the clouds • Pens • Texts from friends • A new notebook • Waking up and realizing that you don’t have school • Weekends • Finding money in my pockets • Feeling loved • Long conversations with my best friend • The smell of the rain • Encouraging Bible verses • Candles • Waves crashing against the sand • Snail mail • Surprise visits • Warm towels • Hot fires • Big sweaters • Blue skies • Remembering the lyrics to a song you haven’t heard in a while • Homemade cookies • Birthdays • Old pictures • Clean laundry • Watching fireworks • Sunsets • Walks on the beach • Simple compliments • Dressing up • Long hugs • Finding the perfect gift for a friend • Traveling • Being with family • Accomplishing a goal • Letting my hair down after a long day • Mom’s cooking • Good movies • New clothes • Books • My pets • Coming home • Walks in the park • A starry night • Painted nails • Church on Sundays

If you read through all of that, *highfive* and here’s a sticker. :) It’s actually not as long as I thought it was going to be. And most of the things are simple, so there really isn’t an excuse for me not being happy now, hehe. Anyways,
