Traveling, Surgery, and A Life Update

Hey, everyone! Did you miss me? I am so so sorry that I haven’t posted! Life has been pretty crazy. But I’m back with a ton of new posts for you! First, I’ll catch you up on everything with a life update.

updateheader

Travels and Adventures

At the end of June, my family and I took a trip to Europe for a couple of weeks to spend time with my grandparents and other family members. We spent a lot of time in Belgium and Holland but we also took a road trip to Germany to get a clock repaired. I had so much fun and met so many cool people. I am working on a travel journal to post soon so keep an eye out for that!

Surgery and Recovery

Monday morning, I woke up bright and early for the surgery on my arm. I was pretty nervous especially since during the nights leading up to the surgery I had nightmares. But, everything went well and I got to go home before lunch so it was fine! The rest of the day I spent sleeping.

On Tuesday, one of my best friends came over to visit me and cheer me up. She even attempted to clean my room for me which was actually really funny. Even so, she helped get my mind off of my arm and the hours I spent feeling useless.

Yesterday, my other best friend came over with her mom and her brothers. She also brought chocolate and flowers so it was a good day! ;) She helped to brighten up my day a bit and I am grateful for that.

Today, I can use my arm a bit more (enough to write some posts) and it doesn’t hurt. I’m planning on taking the rest of the week slow and careful. I am so glad that my arm is healing and that I will be able to use it normally again soon. This whole week has made me feel much more grateful for a healthy and functioning body.

So that’s my quick life update! I’ll be posting a Travel Journal from my Europe trip in a couple of days. Also, this is completely random but, I’m wondering what are your favorite brands for backpacks? Let me know in the comments below; it’ll help me a lot. :)

Real Neat Blog Award

Hey, everybody! I was nominated for another award; this time it was the Real Neat Blog Award. I’m giving a huge thank you to Ashley from Quintessential Habits for nominating me for this award! I had a lot of fun with it and I’m sure she did too. Check out her blog here and her version of the award here. :)

real-neat-blog-award

rules

The ‘rules’ of the Real Neat Blog Award are: (feel free not to act upon them if you don’t have time; or don’t accept awards; etc.):

  1. Put the award logo on your blog.
  2. Answer 7 questions asked by the person who nominated you.
  3. Thank the people who nominated you, linking to their blogs.
  4. Nominate any number of bloggers you like, linking to their blogs.
  5. Let them know you nominated them (by commenting on their blog etc.)

Questions and Answers

  1. What is your perfect ice cream sundae? – This is probably the most interesting question that I’ve ever been asked but my perfect ice cream sundae would include sprinkles, warm cookie bits, and vanilla ice cream.
  2. Who has been the most influential person in your life? – I know this sounds cliche but, the most influential person in my life is God. He has been the One who shaped me into the person I am today! When I became a Christian, my life took an 180-degree turn. God love and mercy has influenced me to be a more loving, hard-working person.
  3. Where do you go to relax? Or what do you do? – When I need to relax, I normally go to my room to write or read. Sometimes, I’ll light a candle (I love the Hello Beautiful Bath & Body Works 3-wick candle) or play some great music (here are my recent favorite songs). The lighting in my room is beautiful in the mornings! It’s relaxing just looking at how the light shines in my room.
  4. Would you rather it be really hot, or really cold? – I would rather be really cold than to be really hot. Just think about it; if you’re cold you can always put on scarfs, fuzzy socks, and hats, but if you’re hot, you can’t put on anything to cool you down.
  5. When was the last time it snowed? – It snowed last Friday! It was SO pretty!
  6. What was the last movie you saw? – The last movie I saw was the 2007 version of Nancy Drew. I remember watching this movie when I was younger. I liked it then, and I still like it now!
  7. Where would you go on a dream vacation? – I would love to go to London, England for a couple of weeks! There are so many places to visit there and in England in general.

award

  1. Lia from Lost In A Story
  2. Amber from What Makes Me Amber
  3. Debbie from Debbie
  4. Anna from Diversion 3000
  5. Hannah from Country Unlimited
  6. You!

Your Questions

  1. What is your favorite movie and why?
  2. What are the first five things that come to your mind right now?
  3. What is something (or someone) that makes you happy?
  4. What is one thing that you learned about yourself last year?
  5. Name one good thing that happened today.
  6. How do you spend your long weekends?
  7. Fill in the blank: I always ____.

Once again, thanks to Ashley for nominating me for this wonderful award! I had a lot of fun answering the questions and coming up with questions for my nominees to answer! If you accept the Real Neat Blog Award, leave a link in the comments with your version of the blog post! I’d love to read it :)

Celebrating The Little Things Tag

Hey, everyone! it’s been so long (one week) since I’ve posted. I’m really sorry but I’ve been so busy with school and a cappella (we have a performance coming up!) so I was doing that. Anyway, I’m back now so here’s a post!

I found this tag by Fadwa from Word Wonders. I know she tagged some people but I thought this tag was really cool and thought I would try it! Be sure to check out Fadwa’s blog here!

tag

Who was your very first follower (if you can find out) tag them and give them a shout out!

My very first follower was my friend Katherine. I had to Grammar classes with her 2 years ago but now I don’t go to school with her :( Kat was a great friend and she was awesome to be around! Shout out to her for being the first to hit that follow button and for being the first of many. :)

What was the last milestone you reached?

I recently reached 200 followers which just so happened to be the same day as my 2 year blogiversary! Yeah! And I wrote a blog post about it (psst. Click here).

What was the very first post you posted on your blog? Share it with us! If you can find out.

My very first blog post was titled Welcome One, Welcome All but that was my introductory post so that doesn’t count. My first official blog post was called The Gift Of Family.

Who was your most recent follower, tag them and give them a shout out!

My most recent follower was none other than Selina from Selina Roth Blog.Shout out to her! Be sure to check out her blog here. :)

What was the last post you posted and who was the very first person who took their time to click the like button? Give them a shout out!

The last post I posted was 5 Bible Verses for When You’re Stressed and the wonderful human who liked it first was (drumroll) Daleenic from Country Girl Reviews! Be sure to check out her blog! I love reading her posts and her book reviews. Also, her letter to the older generation is great. You should read it. Like now. It’s awesome. Just like Daleenic! :)

How many months have you been blogging for?

I have been blogging for almost 25 months! Whohoo! (Psst. I also wrote a blog post about that. Check it out here!)

www.happilyabi.com.png

Do you have any bloggers you’re friends with? Give them a shout out.

Ah! Okay okay! Let’s see. First there’s Aria from Purrfectly Inspired. I’m so glad I was able to get to know Aria. She is probably my closest blogger friend and she’s super helpful. She’s pretty awesome and has AMAZING photography! Like, literally, I’m so jealous of how great her pictures are!! But her pictures aren’t the only things that are amazing; Aria owns a store! Yeah, you read that right. It’s called A Girl And A Cat and it’s so cool. Click the link and go check it out! It’s totally worth it! :D

And then there’s the amazing Petra from Petra Grace Photography.  Petra is a sweet, happy girl who I love talking to. She’s always been so kind. I took classes with her for a while and she is one awesome person just like her photography! Like, literally, one look at her blog and I’m amazed. Check it out!

Bekah from Barefoot Bekah is one of my role models and friends. She is extrememly sweet and has such a heart for God. I’m so incredibly greatful to have her as a friend. I love reading her posts about her travels in Costa Rica. Be sure to check out her blog!

Who originally created the last meme or tag you participated in? Give them a shout out!

The last tag I participated in was The Fall Tag and it was (I think) created by Sandra from The Puzzle Of Sandra’s Life. She took it from a youtube video so I think it counts? So yay for her! I loved that tag. :)

Have you any social media related to your blog?

Yes! My Pinterest is @quiet1234 and my Google + is @happilyabi. I’d LOVE it if you’d check them out!

Last but not least …. Just give thanks to all your followers.

Thank you to all of my wonderful followers who took the time to click that follow button. While I may not know all of you, you have all made a big impact on my life. I love hearing from you guys and knowing that you are reading my posts. It makes my heart swell. :) <3 Keep being awesome! May God bless your lives. :)

Tag! You’re It!

Like the others before me, I’m tagging everyone who was mentioned in this blog post. And because I’m just nice, I’m also tagging anyone who wants to do this tag. :) Enjoy!

What I Read This Summer

Hey, everyone! So I know it’s fall for a lot of you but I wanted to squeeze this post in before my blog feed blows up with fall pictures and pumpkin recipes. Here’s what I read this summer. :)

summereading2

 1. The Chronicles Of Kings Series by Lynn Austin

“Don’t be fooled by strength you can see,” he said at last. “Yahweh often hides His power in the simple things, the weak things, and so His strength seems foolish in man’s eyes.”
Lynn Austin, Gods and Kings

I read this series a couple of years ago and loved it. When I found these books again, I knew I had to read them again. I always get a new perspective when I re-read books. This time, I found a ton of quotes that I really needed to hear. These books are definitely a recommendation!

starstarstarstarhalfstar

2. My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows

myladyjane

 “No horse jokes,” he said.
“My lord, I apologize for the horse joke. If you put down the book—unharmed!—I will give you a carrot.”
He brandished the book at her. “Was that a horse joke?”
“Neigh.”
“Was that a horse joke?”
Cynthia Hand, My Lady Jane

A must read, My Lady Jane is a funny twist on British history. I loved how funny it was and how easily it switch POVs among the chapters. Everyone should read this book.

 starstarstarstar

3. Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

bnw

“Words can be like X-rays if you use them properly — they’ll go through anything. You read and you’re pierced.”
Aldous Huxley (Brave New World)

This book was part of my summer reading for school and honestly, I thought it was a little weird. Okay, a lot weird. BUT, the discussions we’re having in class about this book are actually really interesting. Still, this isn’t a book I would read in my free time.

starstar

 4. Katie Weldon Series by Robin Jones Gunn

“Katie wondered for a moment if part of the reason so many of the young women she knew who had poor self-esteem ended up that way because they had spent their lives gazing at themselves in a mirror instead of being the mirror others gazed into.”
Robin Jones Gunn, Finally and Forever

I loved the Christy Miller Series by Robin Jones Gunn. When I found out about the Katie Weldon series, I was so excited to read the books. These books are fantastic!

starstarstarstarhalfstar

Have you read any of these books? What books did you read this summer? What are you planning on reading this fall? What would you recommend?

The Identity Tag

I was tagged by James from Just Another James to complete his Identity Tag. (Sorry it took me so long James!)

Rules

  • When you’re nominated, the previous person tag should have come up with some questions for you to answer.
  • If you are Tag/Nominated to complete this, you don’t have to post it if you don’t want to, but you have to work out these answers for yourselves!
  • Come up with 10 or more questions, and an extra question in case there’s something someone isn’t comfortable answering online!
  • Nominate 5 or more people to complete this tag.
  • Answer as truthfully and seriously as you can, no cop-out answers!

My Answers

  1. You wake up in this room, in front of you is a man seated at a desk. He says: Before you ask, you’re dead. This is the afterlife… or rather this is how you get there… Firstly I need to know, why should I let you in? What have you done of worth that was important? – What would you say?
As a Christian, I believe that we shouldn’t be let into heaven but it is only by the grace of God that we are forgiven and allowed to be in heaven with Him. As for the second question, I think the most important thing that I’ve done so far is probably realize that I don’t have to go through the storms alone. I remembered that I have God and my family with me and they will forever be with me when I am having hard times.
  2. If they made a song about your life, what genre would it be?
It would probably be a soundtrack from a movie. Like a mix of mystery and chaos but happiness and hope as well. I don’t know if that makes sense but. XD
  3. What is your sole purpose in life?
My main purpose in life is to share the love, hope, and kindness of God to others while being as open as I can.
  4. What do you regret doing?
I regret missing out on opportunities because I’m afraid of being stretched too far from my comfort zone. And it’s something that I’m working on.
  5. What are your strengths?
I’m more of a quiet person which helps me to be more observant. I am able to see when people are having a hard time and can be there for them when they need me. I work great one on one or with small groups.
  6. What are your weaknesses?
I easily find myself lost in crowds, public speaking is one of more worst fears, and I get distracted easily.
  7. What is something that not many people know about you?
I’ve always wanted to own a business. It just seems like a fun thing to do and I can be my own boss. I’m not sure if I ever will do that but it’s a possibility.
  8. What has been the best decision of your life so far?
Being homeschooled has been the best decision for me. I love being at home and having the opportunity to learn more of things that weren’t offered at school. It gives me time to do things like blog and being with my family.
  9. What are you afraid of, and why?
I am terrified of having a speech or presentation and just blanking out in front of everyone.
  10. Where are you going in your life?
I’m hoping to finish high school and go to college. Other than that, I’m not really sure. Maybe some traveling here and there but I will continue blogging. :)

Q&A – Answers

Hey everyone! So last week, I made a post asking for questions to be featured in this Q&A post and you delivered! So without further ado, my answers to your questions. :)
(Sorry it took me so long!)

————————————————————————-

From HappyAlex: “What is your favorite season?”  ~ My favorite season has to be fall. I love the way the leaves crunch beneath my feet and the smell of the pumpkin pie and apple cider. :) Definitely my favorite.

From HappyAlex: “What is your favorite thing about blogging?” ~ My favorite part about blogging would have to be the community. The people here on WordPress and on other blogging sites are all so kind and encouraging and I love that.

From HappyAlex: “Favorite seasonal holiday e.g Christmas/Easter etc?” ~ Christmas has always been my favorite holiday. I love having the family together and the cold, crisp days that come with the feeling of Christmas. But my favorite part about Christmas is decorating the tree together and remembering all of the memories and events from past Christmases.

From HappyAlex: “Favorite way to relax?” ~ For me baking or playing piano are some of the best ways to relax. Just being able to do something and get my mind off of whatever is stressing me out is therapeutic for me.

From HappyAlex: “Favorite book?” ~ My all time favorite book is I’d Tell You I Love You But Then I’d Have To Kill You by Ally Carter. It’s the first book in the Gallagher Girl series which is the series that really got me motivated to write. I highly recommend. :)

From Kody C. Krady: “Who is your favorite Bible character?” ~ My favorite Bible character is Esther. Esther cared for her people and showed great courage when she asked the King to save her people.

From Kody C. Krady: “Who is your favorite person in history and why?” ~ I have always admired Joan of Arc. I think that she was very brave to go to war for France and for standing up for her country. Even though people didn’t like her, she will always be remembered as a saint.

From HannahDestiny27: “What’s your favorite thing about being homeschooled?” ~ My favorite part of being homeschool is being at home. :) I like being able to spend time with and have lunch with my mom.

From Hannah Destiny27: “If you could choose any one new thing to learn, what would you choose?” ~ One thing that I’ve always wanted to learn is sign language. One of my closest friends is learning sign language and she loves it. I think it’s a great thing to know.

From AVeryAwkwardBlogger: “Who’s your favorite pop star?” ~ My favorite pop star is Taylor Swift. Though I like her older songs better, her newer pop songs are pretty cool too.

From AVeryAwkwardBlogger: “What would you do if you could know absolutely anything for 5 minutes?” ~ I would probably eat food and text my friends. Or read one of my favorite books during those 5 free minutes. :) Anything to get my mind off of school for the moment.

From AlaynaFayth: “Why did you begin blogging?” ~ I had been thinking about blogging for a while before I actually started and one of the reasons was because I wasn’t sure if I would have enough time to continue blogging. At some point, I noticed that a lot of my friends had started blogs and I decided that it was time for me to enter the world of blogging.

From AlaynaFayth: “Would you suggest homeschooling as an option for someone debating where to place their children for education? ” ~ Homeschooling was definitely the best thing for me but it might not be great for everyone. I suggest thinking about what kind of environment your child would thrive in. Is he more of an introvert or extrovert? Would he be motivated enough to complete his work? What kinds of things could he do to still get him out of the house? There are also lots of different programs online to ensure that your child is schooled. I hope this helped and if you have anymore questions, let me know. :)

From AlaynaFayth: “Who is your idol?” ~ I wouldn’t really say “idol” but someone who inspires me a lot would be my aunt. She is a writer just like me and has always been so encouraging. She is just an amazing person and I want to be just like her.

Thank you so much for all of the questions!
My question for you is, if you could be any cupcake flavor, which one would you be?
