3 Goals For My Freshman Year of College

Hello everyone! How are you? I have just finished moving in to my University! It has been such a busy and crazy two days but I loved every minute of it. My first day of classes was yesterday and so far everything has been going pretty well! I wanted to make a couple of goals to put myself into the right mindset for school. Here are three of my goals for my freshman year of college.

1. Find a church that I can get involved with.

It’s so important for me to find a church home, especially since I am far away from home. It’s good to have Christians supporting me and keeping me accountable. Also, “church shopping” is a good way to broaden my beliefs and get to know how other people do things!

2. Attend some sporting events.

One thing that I didn’t do in high school was attend sporting events. I always found some kind of excuse as to why I couldn’t go, but now I kind of wish that I had. I could have met more people and experienced a side to the school that I didn’t see. My university has a lot of sporting events happening all throughout the year so I really want to try to attend some of them!

3. Be intentional.

Looking back on my senior year, I realized that there are so many people that I saw everyday but didn’t bother to get to know. Now, I wish that I had stepped out of my comfort zone a little bit more and gotten to know people outside of my group and grade. This year, I want to make more of an effort to be intentional about the relationships that I have.

What are some of your goals for this year?

My 2018 Goals

Hello, friends! You have survived the first week of the new year! Yay! How has it been so far? My days have been pretty crazy as my second quarter of school ends this week and we are scrambling to have enough assignments in the grade book.

2018goals

It’s that time again to reflect on the past year and make goals for the future. 2018 is going to be a big year for me, as it is the year that I graduate high school and enter the world of college. While I am very excited for this year, I know it’s going to include lots of scary and uncomfortable changes. But that’s what life is full of! So the best thing is to make this year a great year. You with me? Here are my 6 goals to make this year great.

1. Grow in my devotion to God.

Every year I have had a different theme representing who I wanted to be and focus on for the year. Last year, my theme was peace and the year before it was hope. This year, my theme is devotion. As I looked back on 2017, I noticed how my relationship with Him has faltered a bit due to doubt and personal struggles. What I realize now is that I was resisting God because I wanted so desperately to be in control of things in my life. But, I’m not in control, God is. This year, I want to work on growing closer to God and trusting in Him for my future.

2. Keep my family relationship strong.

My family isn’t perfect but they are wonderful and I love them. We are already seeing the stress that senior year brings but I don’t want that to hinder our family relationship. This year, I want to continue to keep our relationship strong, even while I’m at college.

3. Stay connected to my friends.

I have been so blessed to have great friends who are very involved in our community as well as each other. But that also means that we are constantly busy. While we may not be around all of the time, I still want to stay connected to my friends and keep my relationships with them.

4. Finish Senior year strong.

Senioritis is real. I didn’t realize how real it was until I got my first acceptance letter. Although there is a lot of pressure among my senior class to give up and stop caring now that I’ve been accepted to college, I need to continue doing my best work in class and outside of class. To do this I will:

  • Set priorities
  • Stay organized
  • Stay motivated

5. Invest in myself.

I believe that a healthy mind and body leads to healthy relationships and a happier life. This year, I want to really make an effort to invest in myself. This can include getting back into photography as a creative outlet, writing music as a way to de-stress, and learning to say no when I am stressed and in need of rest.

6. Invest in my blog.

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you might have noticed that I took a couple of breaks this year. Part of that was because of my sanity, the other part being health-related. While I don’t know what this year will have in store for me, I want to put in a greater effort to be involved in this lovely blogging community. Specifically, I’d like to:

  • Host a giveaway!
  • Comment on 200 posts through the year.
  • and Host guests for collabs!

So that’s what my 2018 looks like! What are your goals for the New Year? Are there any things that you are really excited for this year?

rest-quote

“If you get tired, learn to rest, not to quit.”

rest-verse

“Come to me, all who are weary and burdered, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28

In a world running faster than ever before, it is important to take the time to rest. This time away from the stress of the world is necessary to your health and gives your mind and body a break from running and deadlines. Full rest and peace can only come from God, but we must be willing to receive it. By taking the time to listen for God’s voice, we are opening ourselves up to His rest and peace. My challenge for you is this: make time to rest in Christ today.

Today’s Theme: Trust

worrying and trust quote

“Worrying doesn’t change anything but trusting in God changes everything.” – Unknown

trust_quote

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.” – Psalm 56:3

Trust is one of the most important things in a relationship. It’s the same for our relationship with God. We have to learn to trust Him and His plans for our lives. That’s my challenge for you this week. :)

Today’s Theme: Future

future_quote

“You don’t always need a plan. Sometimes you just need to breathe, trust, let go, and see what happens.” – Unknown –

proverbs_19-21_he-is-in-control

“Many are the plans in a man’s heart but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” – Proverbs 19:21

As graduation crawls closer, people are always asking me what my plans are for the future. And the truth is, I don’t know and I don’t want to think about it. The future is a very scary thing for me, filled with uncertainty and unknowns. But as a Christian, I have to remind myself that I’m not in control; God is. So really, the future shouldn’t be that scary because God is already there. And that is a very calming thought.

Life As A Student During My Busy Week

Hey, everybody! So I was trying to do Blogmas this year but I missed a post yesterday(!!!) and so yeah, that failed. Oh well. Anyway, life has been pretty hectic this week and it’s only Tuesday. Instead of a Blogmas post, here’s a life update and a glimpse at my life as a student during the busiest week of the year. :)

life

So let’s see. Last weekend, I started working on a painting for my Oma. My mom thought it would be nice if I made a painting with a Dutch Prayer on it. I am about a quarter of the way done so I’d say it’s going pretty well!

Yesterday was pretty crazy too. I had school as always but you know those weeks when the teachers are like, “It’s almost the end of the quarter and I don’t have enough things in the grade book!”? Yeah, it’s that kind of week. Except I have an exam on Friday! Yay! So I was assigned a lot of homework but it all worked out because I was able to get some things done before and during school. Then, after school, I went to my induction ceremony where I was inducted into the National Art Honors Society! Fun, fun! So that means, I’ll be able to post more about art because I’ll be doing more art. The ceremony was a lot of fun. The president and vice president gave out flowers to everyone who was inducted. I loved mine! It’s so pretty! :)

day15

Today, I woke up early to finish an essay for my Bible class but I feel really good about it so the grade should be pretty okay. Every Tuesday, my school has Chapel but because there is a Fine Arts’ Chapel tomorrow, the principal bought all of the students ice cream and played Christmas music on the intercom for 30 minutes! It was a great way to start the day! And the rest of the day was fun too. After school, I went to the dentist and it was pretty scary for me (because you know, sharp objects!) but my mom encouraged me to remember Bible verses so then I was okay.

fearnot

So that was my week so far. I have a busy rest of the week ahead of me, with two quizzes, a test, and a performance tomorrow, exam reviews on Thursday and my first exam on Friday. And there are fun things too, like Christmas parties, projects, performances, and birthday parties. But, the great thing to keep in mind is that in 8 short days, all of the exams will be over. :)

I hope you all have a great day and rest of the week! Keep being happy and hopeful. :) ~Abi

A Bit of Encouragement to Get You Through

Hey, everyone! If you’re like me, stressed out about life and have exams coming up, here is a bit of encouragement for you from my favorite Book ever, the Bible. :)

encouragingverses

1 Peter 5:6-7

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.

Romans 8:35-39

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: ‘For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered sheep to be slaughtered.’ No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Luke 18:27

Jesus replied, “What is impossible with men is possible with God.

Jeremiah 30:11 a

“‘I am with you and will save you,’ declares the Lord.”

Proverbs 3:25-26

Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being snared.”

If you have any more encouraging Bible verses, feel free to comment them. We will make it through.

3 Things I’d like to do this year

Hey, everyone! So today I thought it might be nice to share some of my New Year Resolutions. I couldn’t share all of them because well, I have quite a few things I would like to accomplish. So instead of explaining all of my goals, I picked three that are especially important for me to conquer this 2016 year.

3thingsgoals.PNG

1. Learn to cook a couple of meals.

I like helping my mom out in the kitchen and baking is one of my favorite things to do but I haven’t really had much of a chance to explore cookbooks and pick recipes to try. So this year, I really want to pick some recipes from the many many cookbooks in my house to try. And maybe I’ll share a few of my favorites with you all. :)

2. Read 25 books.

Finding time to read fun books that are not required for school can be tough, but it’s a challenge I’m willing to tackle. I didn’t want to pick too big of a number of books to read but I think 25 is a reasonable amount. Of course, I will need to find time to go to the library which for me is fun so I’m not complaining. :)  If you guys have any suggestions on what to read, let me know in the comments and I will check them out!

3. Finish a devotional.

I own many devotionals that I have yet to finish reading. Many times I have just picked bits and pieces from different books but I really want to read right through a devotional. My aunt gave me a devotional last year that I think will be a great one to start working my way through.

So there are my top three things that I want to do this year. What are your top three New Year Resolutions? Let me know in the comments below!

My Typical Monday

homeschoolerday

Hey, guys! Sorry I haven’t written these past weeks. I have literally been doing school this entire time. Anyways, today I’ve decided to post about a day in the life of a homeschooler, my typical Monday. This was suggested by two of my followers, Lisa H. and Grace J.

Typical-Monday

8:00 – My morning begins as I get dressed and ready for school. I try to open my blinds and make my bed as soon as I wake up so that I can start my day looking at the beautiful (and sometimes cloudy) sky.

8:15 – I eat my breakfast with my parents. We usually talk about the plans for the day and what we have for the week. I also check the news for highlights and conversation starters. If needed, I will also finish up some last minute homework before my class starts.

9:30 – My first class begins. I am taking a Logic course that lasts for 85 minutes.

11:00 – My hour and a half break starts. I normally check my email and, if I don’t need to finish homework, I will bake something. I love baking cookie cakes but my sisters love the pumpkin chocolate chip muffins that I make more frequently, now that it’s fall.

12:30 – My Pre. Calculus class starts and around this time, my mom brings me lunch.

2:00 – My final class for the day, French, begins. I feel that this class ends far too quickly. :)

3:30 – I’ve finally finished all of my classes, so to reward myself, I have a snack break. Sometimes, if I have time, I’ll also have a piano break. This is also the time that I tell my mom about my day. She loves hearing my stories and knowing what the teachers are teaching me.

4:00 – Around 4, I start doing my homework for the next day. My homework partner is the Christian Genre Radio or the Indie Worship playlist on Spotify.

6:00 – My sisters come home from their play practice and I greet them happy and ready to hear their stories. We sit around the kitchen island and take turn asking and answering questions before they start on their homework.

6:30 – My dad gets home from work and my family sits down to dinner. I love being able to have a meal together as a family and hear about each other’s day. Plus, my mom is a great cook and that makes dinner time a lot better. :)

7:10 – I check the news again and maybe play piano.

7:30 – I continue to work on the homework that never ends. I will take a break every now and then just to keep myself focused on the task at hand.

9:45 – Exhausted, I head upstairs to get ready for bed. I like to pick out my outfit the night before to save time in the mornings. I also take a shower at night so that I can just get up and go in the mornings.

10:30 – Unless I am absolutely too tired to read, I will read a chapter in my Bible. I am going through a reading plan on the YouVersion app called “The One Year ® Bible”. It gives you a chapter from a couple of books to go through. You can follow me by searching the username: “AbiLeah” on the YouVersion app.

11:00 – My day finally ends, as I turn off the light. I try not to go to bed any later than 11.

Thank you so much for reading! This was a great idea and I like being able to actually see my schedule out on paper (or on a blog post). I hope you have a great day and a great week!

What is one thing that you typically do one your Mondays? Let me know in the comments below. Also be sure to leave any suggestions, questions or comments that you may have for me. :)
